Sigma carries surface-mount scene lights for your truck. These lights come in a variety of sizes. The most common are 6″x4″, 7″x3″, and 9″x7″, similar to the warning lights that you have on your apparatus.
There are a number of options but we prefer the Tecniq “K” series scene lights. They are bright, meet NFPA ground lighting standards when properly mounted, are low profile, are made in the USA, and have a lifetime warranty. They are also priced very competitively compared to the ‘big name’ scene lights. We have had excellent results with the Tecniq lights.
The Tecniq K90 (9×7) is a 5000 lumen light that has LED elements that are individually switched, so you can turn half the light on, or the entire light. This adds flexibility in applications where the light might be too bright.
The K90 draws only 3 amps, which is half the amp draw of similar competitors. The light is completely sealed and is fully ‘submersible’. You will NOT get water droplets forming inside these lights (if you do, it’s covered under warranty). The LEDs are 5000K light temperature for a neutral, accurate white light very similar to natural sunlight.
Unlike some lights that that may have slightly higher output, but shine straight out from the vehicle, leaving the ground below them in the dark, the Tecniq lights have a light pattern that is 0 degrees (horizontal) to 87 degrees down and +/- 45 degrees along vehicle, drastically reducing wasted light, and improving the light on the ground near the truck. Mounting hole patterns are the same as other brands’ standard 9″x7″, 7″x3″, and 6″x4″ lights.
FRC manufactures a few different surface-mount scene lights, including the Spectra 900, which is a 7000 lumen light. The Spectra 900 is 9″ wide x 6 3/4″ high. While brighter than any other light its size, it also protrudes from the vehicle a bit further and is shaped a bit differently than the standard 9×7 lights that Tecniq and others use. However, the light is extremely bright and has downward-aimed optics similar to the Tecniq. It is a surface mount light requiring no cut-out of the body of the truck.
For the absolute brightest surface-mount LED scene light, FRC manufactures the Spectra SPA260. It is essentially one of their Spectra pole mount lights in a surface-mount housing. These lights can operate on 12vdc or 120vac (240vac models also available). They use 60 LEDs to produce an astonishing 15,000 lumens! They are power-hungry, though, with the 12vdc 15,000 lumen model drawing 13 amps.
The light measures 14.5″ wide and 6″ tall. It projects 1.75″ from the truck body.
If you need bright, this is the light.
